About Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) helps treat individuals who are struggling with depression. TMS works by utilizing a targeted magnetic field to stimulate areas of the brain that control mood. These specific areas of the brain are believed to be underactive in those suffering from depression or anxiety. The magnetic pulses are administered rapidly, producing long-lasting changes in brain activity. TMS has been proven to be safe and effective long-term. To assess if TMS is right for you, we encourage you to reach out to us for a full evaluation. While highly effective in the majority of cases, it is important to undergo a detailed evaluation before determining whether or not this is an appropriate treatment plan for your specific situation.

Upon starting TMS therapy, clients will be fit for their own helmet, which is outfitted with a metal coil that transmits the magnetic pulses. The helmet allows these pulses to be directed to the exact position in the brain that is required to be stimulated. You will remain awake during the treatment, and there are no after-effects, so you will be able to engage in normal activities and carry on with your day-to-day life as soon as the treatment session concludes. You will also be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment which is not the case for ketamine treatment or ketamine infusion therapy which require someone to transport you after treatments. Each session takes between 20 and 30 minutes after your initial visit (which will be slightly longer).
