About Esketamine Spravato Treatment

Ketamine, a dissociative drug most frequently used as an anesthetic, is now being used to treat individuals who have been struggling with antidepressant-resistant depression and other mental health concerns. While traditional treatments for depression, like talk therapy and standard medications, can take weeks to months to take effect, Ketamine can make a positive impact in only a matter of days. It is estimated that between 20-30% of people suffering from depression are resistant to antidepressant medications.

We offer in-depth consultations to those interested in ketamine infusions or Spravato ketamine treatments. If your provider determines ketamine treatment is a good option, you may begin ketamine treatment as soon as your second visit to Bishop Health in Portland, Maine. We encourage you to make arrangements for transportation to and from the treatment center in advance. You will not be able to drive, operate machinery or engage in any activity where you need to be completely alert until the day after a treatment session, following a full night’s sleep. A healthcare provider at our Portland treatment center will monitor you for at least two hours following your treatment.

Feedback From Our Clients

Excellent
4.9
Caring and informative people, top to bottom. Put me solidly on my path to a better life. I cannot say enough about Christie Swart, my primary therapist. Professional, kind, engaged throughout the process. Took the time to get to understand my particular circumstances and tailored an appropriate approach. A true gem of a professional.
Scott Retan was a huge help and a savior for my son. Scott guided my son through some very rough times, and he went well above and beyond. Scott was very accessible and provided much-needed and -appreciated feedback. I had very positive experiences with Guardian Recovery, and the staff and management there.
The staff is friendly, and responsive, don’t think I’ve ever been to a medical office where the staff is so universally kind and helpful.
Response from the owner: Thank you for your feedback, Lee!

Frequently Asked Questions

Eskatmine Spravato treatment is only for adults and administered to those with treatment-resistant-depression (TRD) and to treat depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD).

Spravato will be administered via nasal spray under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

Eskatamine and Ketamine are very similar but they are not the same. Their chemical makeup is similar, however, Eskatamine is more potent and effective in treating major depression.

Unlike conventional antidepressants that increase levels of naturally occurring chemicals like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, Esketamine’s antidepressant function operates through a different mechanism. The theory behind conventional antidepressants is that having more of these neurotransmitters facilitates better communication between brain cells, leading to improved mood.

Esketamine works similarly but has a unique approach to increasing glutamate levels, the most prevalent chemical messenger in the brain, rather than the other neurotransmitters. This method has a broader impact on multiple brain cells simultaneously, resulting in more pronounced effects than conventional antidepressants.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Spravato (esketamine) nasal spray, in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, for the treatment of depression in adults who have tried other antidepressants but have not seen improvement (treatment-resistant depression).
